Weekly update 10/10/2024

10 Oct 2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Meet the Police

Tomorrow PCSO Charlotte will be dropping in to say hello to Rocket Class as part of their PSHE lesson.  We are so lucky to have PCSOs Charlotte and Heather who regularly drop in to school to support our PSHE curriculum.  This session will just be an opportunity for Charlotte to introduce herself and talk to the children about her role in the police

Geography Immersive Day.

On Wednesday 16th October, Y3-6 will be travelling to Kirkby Malzeard School.  The children will take part in a Water Day hosted by Yorkshire Water where they will learn through interactive workshops about the water cycle and water treatment.  In the afternoon the Y5/6 will be taking part in a Lego Blockage Busters challenge, where they will make a Lego bot, and use coding, to help unblock the sewers.   The Y3/4 will be continuing their learning will Miss Marlow at Kirkby Malzeard school.  Thank you to those parents who have given consent, if you are still to do so please just let Miss Tucker or Miss Marlow know and if you will be providing a home packed lunch or one from school.

Theatre Visits

We have been lucky enough to reserve seats for a theatre trip for all children in school. We would like to take:

Reception, Year One and Year Two children to see ‘Mr Snow’ at Leeds Playhouse on Tuesday 3rd December during the afternoon, arriving back to school at around 4pm (time TBC).

Year Three, Four, Five and Six children to see ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at Leeds Playhouse on January 7th during the afternoon, arriving back to school around 5.15pm (time TBC).

Our amazing friends have again been incredibly supportive of our curriculum enrichment programme and have donated a significant amount towards the cost of the trip.

Year Reception to Two
The remaining cost of the trip is £13.00 per child and we ask parents to support us by making a voluntary contribution of this amount.

Year Three to Six
The remaining cost of the trip is £15.00 per child and we ask parents to support us by making a voluntary contribution of this amount.

A link has been sent to parents containing all information needed regarding this.

We thank you for your support in helping us to ensure we can keep our curriculum as hands on and exciting as possible.

Parent Consultations:

Parent consultations will take place in school on Monday 21st October.
Please use the link sent to book a slot for these with your child’s class teacher.

Wrap Around Care

Thank you to the parents who responded to our survey regarding wrap around care. We had a fantastic response and this has helped us to understand the needs of our parents whilst also formalising our offer.

From the parent feedback forms, and from evidence we have seen over the last few terms, our wrap around care offer has becoming increasingly popular.

Our parent survey demonstrated the following:
  • There is an increase in need for space at after school club.
  • Parents need an early drop off time of 7.30am so this will continue
  • The majority of parents who regularly use the club do not require childcare after 5.30pm.
Therefore, in response to this, we will be:
  • Expanding places available and increasing staffing where needed to facilitate this
  • Extending after school club to 5.25pm starting from Monday 14th October 2024.
  • Changing the quick drop off times to 8.30am with a charge of £2.00
We ask that parents ensure they have collected by 5.25pm at the latest. Collection after this time will incur a £5.00 late collection fee.

In order to ensure the continuation of the high-quality provision and increases in places and staffing, we will be formalising the booking system for wrap around care moving forward.

Parents who require regular places in wrap around care must now book these in advance for the term ahead, effective from Monday 4th November.
From November 4th, once sessions are booked, you will automatically be charged on a monthly basis for these, over the whole term, whether you use these sessions or not.

Moving forward from January, places should be booked for the term ahead, by the Wednesday of the second week of each term at the latest.  (This allows parents a week’s flexibility to choose enrichment clubs first before committing to booking any wrap around care they may need in addition to these).

Parents can still book spaces in the first week of each term on any day/s they require by emailing the school office as normal.

Drop in and emergency wrap around care will still be available if space/staffing allows. This can also be requested via an email to the school office.

These new arrangements will be in place from Monday 4th November, so we ask all parents who need wrap around care to fill out the attached form and return this to the school office by Monday 21st October to secure a place.
