Weekly Update 12.06.26

11 Jun 2026

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

FOUNTAINS ABBEY
The KS2 children enjoyed a great day exploring Fountains Abbey in the rain!  Everyone showed great resilience and made the most of the experience, not letting the weather conditions dampen their spirits.  Thank you to Mrs Phillips for organising the day.

CAN YOU HELP?
An unfortunate accident occurred this week when a football was kicked over the school fence resulting in a pane of glass of a neighbour’s greenhouse being broken.  We are keen to support our neighbours in having this repaired.  If you know of anyone who has the skills to replace a pane of glass and might be willing to help, please do let us know.

Spotlights from Learning…

In Rocket Class this week, the EYFS children have enjoyed using a rekenrek in Maths to support their subitising skills.  Can your child explain to you what a rekenrek is and how we use them in school?
The Year One children have all completed their Phonics screening and did themselves proud- well done Year One!  The Government release the pass mark later in the month and your child's score will be included in their end of year report.
Thank you to everybody that has sent in junk modelling resources...I'm sure many of you have received them back with the added bonus of sellotape and masking tape attached!  I would also like to ask whether anybody has - or knows anybody who has large cable reels that they would be willing to donate to school.   We have had ours for a couple of years and sadly they are now disintegrating.  These are a valuable resource as the children use them as surfaces for small world play as well as posts for den building, etc.  Please get in touch with Mrs Clegg if you know of any we could have!
Finally, just a reminder that children MUST have their arms and legs covered for forest school.  On the off chance (!) that it is sunny, it is still not safe for children to wear shorts and t-shirts.  Please ensure you send long sleeve tops and trousers to go under waterproofs.  Thank you for your support with this.

In Comet Class, we have been busy learning about how to take care of our teeth as part of our PSHE lessons.  It has provided us with an excellent opportunity to use our skills in instruction writing to note down our top tips for healthy teeth.  We are going to use these to create posters with Mrs Cornforth next week.  I wonder if you can tell your grown-ups five of your top tips – choose the ones which you think are most important to remember.
In Maths, we have been exploring fractions, identifying and naming them as well as identifying the denominator and numerator.

This week in Asteroid Class, we have been doing assessments in Year 4 and 5, while the Year 6s have been getting their Leavers’ assembly memories written.  Well done everyone for a great effort in your tests.  We have also had Sporting Influence on Monday afternoon doing a training session with Sports Crew for Years 5 and 6.  They were great ambassadors for the school and are looking forward to rolling out the games they have learnt to deliver at playtimes.  We went to Fountains Abbey on Thursday for our Monks in the Middle Ages topic - the children were beautifully behaved and enjoyed themselves.  Can you tell your adult which part of the abbey was your favourite?

WORD OF THE WEEK
Our next word to explore is:

The children are encouraged to find out what the word means and perhaps use it in a sentence or explore its etymology.  Their efforts are then displayed in the hall.  Although aimed more at the KS2 children, everyone is welcome to join in.

Remember to look out for more details of our learning for the term ahead on our class pages on the school website.

Reminders…
NO WRAPAROUND CARE…
…after-school on Monday 15th June due to staff training.

FOREST SCHOOL
Rocket Class (Nursery-Y2) will have forest school every Wednesday afternoon this half term.  Children should come to school in their uniform with a change of clothes and waterproofs in a bag ready for the afternoon.

Coming up…
PCSO VISIT
On Monday PCSO Heather will be dropping into school to work with the Y6 children on aspects of the PSHE curriculum.  The session will look at County Lines and the ‘No Knives’ initiative.  PCSO Heather will be around at the end of the school day if any parents would like to catch her for any advice or support on how to keep our children safe.

KS2 REHEARSALS
The Y4/5/6 children will be heading over to Kirkby Malzeard for their first rehearsal of Beauty and the Beast on Wednesday 17th June.

RIPON THEATRE FESTIVAL
With only a couple of weeks to go, we have been asked to let as many families as possible know about Ripon Theatre Festival in July.

Now in its 5th year, it is well established in the Ripon calendar. However, its continued success relies on the attendance to fabulous free and ticketed events including theatre, music, dance and many street performances across the city.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates
A MESSAGE FROM INTERNET MATTERS
Children with additional needs may experience the online world differently to their peers.
Some children may spend more time online, be more trusting, compliant or anxious, or feel less in control of their online experiences.
As parents and carers, it can be difficult to know how best to support your child, especially when much of the online safety advice available takes a “one size fits all” approach.
That’s why we wanted to share Every Child Safe Online, a new advice hub from online safety experts Internet Matters which offers accessible, practical resources and guidance for parents and carers of children with additional needs.
The resources are designed to help you support your child to have safer, more positive online experiences, with guidance that recognises that every child is different.
You can access the resources here.
