Weekly Update 22.05.26

21 May 2026

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

Happy Half Term
Wishing all of our children, families, and staff a fantastic and restful half-term break!
Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and energy throughout this busy and productive half term.
Take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for what looks to be a very busy and exciting last half term of the academic year.

Sports day
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for Sports Day!
Your fantastic energy, cheering, and support created an incredible atmosphere for the children.
We are incredibly proud of how well the children participated, showing great sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination throughout all the events. We are also so proud of the older pupils who supported our younger pupils so well.
A special congratulations also goes out to the brave adults who stepped up and took part in our parent races—your competitive spirit was fantastic to see!
Thank you again to our friends for their fantastic efforts.
Thank you again for your ongoing support and for making the day so memorable.
Spotlights from Learning…

In Rocket Class this week, the EYFS children have enjoyed creating some fantastic things!  We've had Ghostbuster detectors, telescopes, bracelets and planets!  With this in mind, please could I ask you all to save any recycling over the half term break and send into school with the children when we return?  We would like kitchen roll tubes (no toilet rolls please), cereal boxes, yoghurt pots etc.  Thank you for your help!
The Y1 children have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s using coins.  Some practising of this over half term would be really beneficial!  Just a little reminder about Numbots too...!  Thank you for supporting your child's learning at home.

In Comet Class, we have now completed our exploration of Paris and all its landmarks.  Inspired by the film Ratatouille, we have started to learn how to write recipes using all the features of instructions.  We have been learning to use the imperative form (or command sentences), as well as using adverbial phrases and adjectives to add detail.  How may ‘bossy verbs’ can you think of related to cookery?  We are looking forward to testing out our recipes when we return to school after the half-term break…

This week in Asteroid Class, we have been thinking in Science how damaging the environment can negatively affect the biodiversity of the area and the different species that live there.  Can you remember all the different ways that this can occur?  We have also had a very successful Sports Day on Tuesday afternoon, thank you all for your support and enthusiasm!  You will also have taken home your modroc heads, pride of place on the mantlepiece please!

WORD OF THE WEEK
Our next word to explore is:

The children are encouraged to find out what the word means and perhaps use it in a sentence or explore its etymology.  Their efforts are then displayed in the hall.  Although aimed more at the KS2 children, everyone is welcome to join in.

Remember to look out for more details of our learning for the term ahead on our class pages on the school website.

Reminders…
Rocket Class should come to school in their Forest School kit today.
We finish at the usual time of 3.25pm ready for our half-term break and school re-opens for the children on Tuesday 2nd June.

FOUNTAINS ABBEY VISIT
You should have received information about our KS2 visit to Fountains Abbey on Thursday 11th June.  Responses are due by the end of today.  If you haven’t already done so, please respond by clicking the confirm button within the email or contact the school office if any further information is required.

Coming up…
SPORTING INFLUENCE ROUNDERS
On Tuesday 2nd June (first day back), Mr V will be in school to run the rounders sessions which had to be postponed last week.  Please make sure that all children have their PE kit in school ready to take part.

MTC CHECK
Children in Y4 will be participating in the national Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) during the first week of June.  Please see below for information for parents:
FOREST SCHOOL
Rocket Class (Nursery-Y2) will have forest school every Wednesday afternoon after half term.  Children should come to school in their uniform with a change of clothes and waterproofs in a bag ready for the afternoon.
On Friday 5th June, it will be the turn of Asteroid Class (including Year 3) to take part in Forest School. Please can the children come to school wearing their forest school kit ready to add waterproofs on arrival.  They do not need to bring their uniform to change into afterwards as they can change straight into their PE kit ready for their afternoon lesson.
