Weekly Update 23.05.25

23 May 2025

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

WELL DONE…
…to all our children (not to mention our parents and carers!) for their enthusiasm, team work and effort during our Sports Day earlier this week.  Huge thanks to Mr Anson for his super organisation and to our wonderful Friends PTA group who sorted out the refreshment tent.  It was lovely to have our school community come together and weren’t we lucky with the weather?  See Community News and below for more sporting opportunities!

MORE SPORT!
Sporting Influence will be in school leading workshops for all children during the morning of Tuesday 3rd June.  Please make sure that PE kits are in school ready for this.

CLUBS…
…will continue as normal after half-term.  Any children already enrolled will automatically have the opportunity to continue as it has been a very short half-term.  However, if your child does not want to continue, please let us know by Tuesday 3rd June so that places can be opened up to others.  Many thanks.

FOREST SCHOOL
Rockets (Nursery-Y2) are in the forest every Wednesday afternoon after half term.  Please bring old clothes, waterproofs and wellies.  Please note that arms and legs still need to be covered even if the sun is out!

REMINDERS
Please note that Monday 2nd June will be a teacher training day.  School reopens on Tuesday 3rd June for children.  We look forward to seeing everyone then.

REPORTING ABSENCE
Just a polite reminder that parents need to inform school by 9am at the latest if their child is going to be absent from school (on each day of absence).  If a child fails to attend without word from home, school have a duty of care to follow this up with phone calls.  If we are unable to make contact, welfare checks may need to be made.  This can be very time-consuming and take staff away from teaching and learning time.  Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Message from the friends
The Friends of St Nicholas School have lots of preloved uniform for sale, including shorts and summer dresses for the summer term.  Items are 50p each or £1 for jumpers and coats. Please see the Friends of St Nicholas School Facebook page for more details and send a message to Jen Whitehouse on 07824 355024 if you'd like anything.

SUNDAY WORSHIP
All welcome at this Sunday’s service at St Nicholas Church at 9.15am, which will be led by Reverend Simon.  Many thanks to the children who have volunteered to help with the service.

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…
We are so lucky to live in such beautiful surroundings and particularly to have the River Ure on our doorstep ready for a paddle on a hot day.  With this in mind, we have had a quick catch up with the children about river safety and reminded them that they must always be supervised by an adult (who has checked the conditions) if they go down to the river.

Wishing everyone a very happy half-term break!
